Michelle Williams, PhD, Joins UPMC Hillman Cancer Center

Please join us in welcoming Michelle Williams, PhD, to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, effective May 1, 2024. Dr. Williams is Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh. 

Dr. Williams will develop an independently funded and nationally recognized research program in cancer biology, including collaborative efforts with both basic research and clinical faculty at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

She has joined us from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Department of Pathology. Dr. Williams revealed immune suppressive factors utilized by metastatic hormone receptor positive or triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) including cytokine and metabolite secretion. Her current work tests the impact of tumor cell heme metabolism on immune suppression in breast cancer liver metastasis. She has over 25 peer-revied publications and presented at multiple conferences. She has been the recipient of federal and foundation funding for her research, as well as a number of academic and professional honors.  Dr. Williams is an active member of the scientific community, teaching and mentoring students, and providing service to her institutions and professional societies.

Dr. Williams earned her PhD at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Department of Cancer Biology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Richer at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
