We are pleased to announce that Greg M. Delgoffe, PhD, has agreed to serve as Associate Director (AD) for Basic Science at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, effective September 1, 2025.
Dr. Delgoffe is a distinguished and integral part of the research, training, and leadership for our cancer center. Since March 2022, he has led the Tumor Microenvironment Center and more recently, he also took on the leadership role as co-leader of the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Program – one of our seven NCI cancer center support grant research programs.
He is a prolific expert in the study of immune and cancer metabolism with over 90 publications in highly indexed peer-reviewed journals; has provided numerous invited reviews, book chapters and presentations; has been honored with a number of awards including the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award and the Cancer Research Institute’s Lloyd J. Old STAR Award; has been a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2022; and has helped translate many findings in his laboratory into clinical trials and biotech startup efforts.
Dr. Delgoffe also serves the scientific community in many ways – teaching several courses at the university; actively serving as a mentor to postdoctoral fellows, graduate, undergraduate, and high school students; as the editor-in-chief to the journal Immunology; as the current Director for the Pitt graduate Program for Microbiology and Immunology; and participating on several boards and as chairs for conferences. He was also recently elected to Chair the AACR Cancer Immunology (CIMM) Working Group.
He earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD and did his postdoctoral work at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. He started his lab here at the UPMC Hillman in 2014.
We are very grateful to Dr. Shivendra Singh, PhD for his 20 years of leadership as AD for Basic Science. Based on his longstanding accomplishments and continued leadership contributions to UPMC Hillman, he will remain a valued member of the UPMC Hillman. He will also continue as the UPMC Chair, Cancer Prevention Research for the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
