Welcome Curtis McCloskey

Please join us in welcoming Curtis McCloskey, PhD, to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, effective June 2, 2025. Dr. McCloskey is Assistant Professor in the Department of Computational and Systems Biology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr.McCloskey’s research aims to drive new understanding of ovarian and breast cancers by identifying novel therapeutic vulnerabilities and developing critical model systems for therapeutic discovery. His research is guided by a lens of cancer prevention with a focus on integrating functional and computational approaches.

At UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, he will develop an independently funded and nationally-recognized research program in Cancer Biology, which will include collaborative efforts with both basic research and clinical faculty across our center.

He is joining us from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, Canada, where he was a Postdoctoral Fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Rama Khokha. Dr. McCloskey earned his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Barbara Vanderhyden at the University of Ottawa. He has received several awards and honors, including the Cancer Research Society Next Generation Scientist Award and Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship for his postdoctoral work, and the Vanier Canada Graduate scholarship during his graduate studies. His research has been funded by the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Terry Fox Research Institute, and Cancer Research Society.

Dr. McCloskey has published and presented his work in multiple peer-reviewed journals and outlets and has gotten a Patent on FGL2 targeted immunotherapy. He is an active member of the scientific community, serving as a mentor and as a peer reviewer for several high-impact journals.
