Abstract: Smoking tobacco during the perioperative period increases rates of surgical complications and hospital readmissions. The UPMC Tobacco Treatment Service collaborated with Orthopedic surgery to develops a telemedicine tobacco cessation program for patients undergoing total joint replacement surgery. We present this pathway and our lessons learned highlighted in our recent publication in New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst.
