Lecture Title: Host Defense Strategies

Rusland Medzhitov, PhD, Sterling Professor of Immunobiology at Yale University and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, will present the 2019 Dickson Prize in Medicine Lecture, “Host Defense Strategies,” as part of Science 2019, the University of Pittsburgh’s annual celebration of science and technology. The Dickson Prize in Medicine is the highest honor awarded by Pitt’s School of Medicine.

Medzhitov is credited with many fundamental discoveries concerning the importance of Toll-like receptors in controlling adaptive immunity, infections, chronic inflammation, and tumor growth. Many drug companies are actively targeting these receptors in hopes of treating cancer, sepsis, and inflammatory disease.
