UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is pleased to welcome Angela Mazul, PhD. Dr. Mazul is assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh and a member of UPMC Hillman.
Dr. Mazul will focus on head and neck cancer epidemiology, including a focus on understanding and addressing health disparities in cancer presentation and outcomes. Her research will be in the areas of head and neck cancer epidemiology, with a specific emphasis on developing a robust head and neck cancer population-based study across the UPMC system. She will collaborate closely with faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology, as well as at UPMC Hillman.
Dr. Mazul is joining from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was an assistant professor of otolaryngology and had appointments in the Division of Public Health Sciences within the Department of Surgery. She has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at several international conferences. Dr. Mazul is an active member of the scientific community, serving as an editorial ad hoc reviewer, and mentoring many clinical research trainees, medical students, fellows, and residents. She has a K award from the National Institutes of Health for her work on social and molecular determinants of HPV-associated cancers.
Dr. Mazul earned her PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her MPH at Tulane University. She was a T32 postdoctoral fellow at UNC’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
