Education & Training

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is committed to the education and training of new and upcoming cancer researchers and health care professionals who care for cancer patients. We offer a wide variety of educational opportunities, including high school and undergraduate summer research opportunities, the University of Pittsburgh’s Oncology Graduate Program, graduate student and post-doctoral  programs, medical fellowships and residencies, and continuing medical education for healthcare professionals. Several of our research faculty have training grants to support pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and short-term research training experiences in specified areas of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research.

In addition, our community outreach and education efforts, coordinated through the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, strive to reduce the burden of cancer, promote cancer health equity, and inform, apply, and enhance scientific research by establishing strategic partnerships with health promotion and advocacy organizations throughout western Pennsylvania.

We also have a Women’s Initiatives Task Force to support and foster the recruitment, retention, and promotion of female faculty at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and to raise constant awareness of issues for women in science.
