PhD Graduate Students

Located at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, the University of Pittsburgh's Oncology Graduate Program (OGP) offers its students access to state-of-the art facilities and training with scientists from the entire spectrum of cutting-edge cancer research and biological basis for care, from the bench to the bedside.

Other graduate training programs in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine are often organized along programmatic rather than departmental lines. Graduate students conduct research under faculty mentors in virtually every one of the school's departments. In addition to the OGP, students and faculty come together across UPMC Hillman through PhD programs in Cell Biology & Molecular Physiology, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Genetics & Developmental Biology, Cellular and Molecular Pathology, Molecular Pharmacology, and Integrative Systems Biology. Training is available in a wide range of cancer-related research areas including: the basic control of gene expression, cell cycle regulation and DNA repair, identification of novel therapeutic targets, development and characterization of small molecule drug candidates, cancer epidemiology, and viral causes of human cancers, among many others.
