Empowering those who work with youth to combat the tobacco epidemic

We welcomed community leaders, teachers, parents, guidance counselors and school nurses to help combat the tobacco epidemic amongst our youth. YOU all play an integral role in the future of youth health and education.
The YOUth Tobacco Summit 2022 was a community event developed by, and offered through community partners, including UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, University of Pittsburgh, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Adagio Health; educators; and tobacco professionals specifically for educational professionals and interested community members who work with the youth population. The curriculum included expert speakers in tobacco control and offered current strategies for engaging youth.
A priority of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center’s cancer control and health equity initiatives is to educate those who work with our youth about tobacco control. We recognize the powerful influence of various community members, including community leaders, parents/guardians, teachers, guidance counselors and school nurses in the education of our children about nicotine addiction, tobacco products, and cannabis use.
The cost was free. Act 48 credit eligibility was offered for educators only.
