We are delighted to announce Margaret (Peggy) Rosenzweig, PhD, CRNP-C, AOCNP, FAAN, as Associate Director (AD) for the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center following a nationwide search, effective immediately.
Dr. Rosenzweig brings an extraordinary breadth of expertise in oncology and community‐focused cancer care. Dr. Rosenzweig served as AD for Catchment Area Research from 2019 to 2022, during which she was heavily involved in our COE activities. In her current roles as Distinguished Service Professor of Nursing, the Nancy Glunt Hoffman Endowed Chair in Oncology Nursing, Professor of Medicine, and Oncology Nursing Society Research Scholar in Residence at the University of Pittsburgh, her work has been instrumental in advancing cancer research, patient support, and efforts to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes.
Throughout her career, Dr. Rosenzweig has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community engagement, particularly in addressing racial and socioeconomic disparities in breast cancer survival. Her leadership of outreach initiatives such as the Cancer CARES Program, addressing the community cancer needs of Pittsburgh’s Black neighborhoods, the Support, Education, and Advocacy Program for Women with Metastatic Breast Cancer and the Allegheny County Breast Collaborative exemplifies her deep dedication to bringing research, education, and compassionate care directly into the communities we serve. In addition to her community service, she is actively engaged in committees across the university and UPMC. Dr. Rosenzweig has authored more than 150 publications, presented her work at many scientific conferences nationally and internationally, and is the recipient of several research grants funded by a variety of sources, including federal, philanthropic, pharmaceutical and internal awards. Dr. Rosenzweig earned her MSN and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Nursing.
Dr. Rosenzweig will play a key leadership role in the successful development and writing of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), contributing critical expertise to the COE components and helping to articulate our center’s impact, partnerships, and commitment to reducing cancer disparities across the region. She will also continue the work of the Office of COE strengthening our community partnerships, elevating our outreach programs, and ensuring that the voices and needs of our communities continue to shape UPMC Hillman’s research priorities and community education efforts. She will also continue to lead the Office of COE in its vital role in connecting community members with cancer prevention, screening, care resources, and opportunities to engage with UPMC Hillman’s clinical teams and research.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Natacha De Genna, PhD, for her leadership and dedication in serving as the Interim AD of COE since last June. Her guidance, thoughtful decision-making, and unwavering commitment has not only continued our impact in our cancer center’s catchment area but also helped to grow it. I am deeply grateful for the care she invested in supporting our community during this transition period. We look forward to her continued involvement in the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
Please join us in thanking Dr. De Genna for her outstanding service and in congratulating Dr. Rosenzweig on this important appointment, which is vital to cancer education, prevention, care, and support across western Pennsylvania and beyond.
