Welcome Christopher Lemmon

We are pleased to welcome Christopher Lemmon, MD, to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, effective July 15, 2026. Dr. Lemmon joins the Department of Medicine, Division of Malignant Hematology/ Medical/Oncology as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Lemmon is an accomplished thoracic medical oncologist, clinical investigator, and educator whose work is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. He joins us from the University of Cincinnati, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and cared for patients with lung cancer, thymic malignancies, mesothelioma, and head and neck cancers.

His research has focused on advancing experimental therapeutics, precision oncology, and biomarker-driven treatment strategies through both investigator-initiated and multicenter clinical trials. As a site principal investigator and collaborator on numerous national and industry-sponsored studies, he has expanded access to innovative therapies for patients with thoracic cancers while contributing to the development of next-generation treatment approaches.

Dr. Lemmon has also established himself as a thoughtful academic leader and educator. He served as Associate Program Director for the Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati and has been recognized throughout his training and early faculty career for excellence in patient care, quality improvement, and medical education. His scholarly contributions include impactful publications in JCO Precision Oncology, The Oncologist, JTO Clinical and Research Reports, Lancet, and Cancer Discovery, with research spanning clinical trials, precision medicine, health economics, and outcomes research in lung cancer. His commitment to translating scientific discovery into improved patient care exemplifies the type of physician-scientist we strive to recruit to UPMC Hillman.

At UPMC Hillman, Dr. Lemmon will establish an experimental therapeutics and translational oncology research program focused on lung cancer while working closely with our Thoracic Oncology Disease Team and investigators across the Cancer Therapeutics Program and other Hillman research programs. In addition to developing his research portfolio, he will provide outstanding clinical care for patients with thoracic malignancies and play an important role in mentoring our hematology/oncology fellows, medical students, and internal medicine residents.
