Please join us in congratulating Sarah E. Taylor, MD, PhD, for assuming the new role as leader of the early phase gynecologic oncology trials program at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, effective October 1, 2025. Dr. Taylor, who is currently a member of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Program of UPMC Hillman, will also serve as the program’s liaison for the cancer center’s Committee of Community Outreach & Engagement.
In her new role, Dr. Taylor will oversee clinical research group meetings, support trial reviews, and act as a liaison for community outreach programs. Additionally, she will lead the gynecologic cancer clinical trials program, serve as the site principal investigator for key groups, facilitate partner engagement to enhance trial enrollment, oversee trial selection committees, and be accountable for program performance metrics.
Dr. Taylor’s research interests include targeted and novel treatments of gynecologic cancer, correlated biomarker development for defining personalized cancer therapy, and screening and early detection of gynecologic cancers, particularly in individuals with hereditary predisposition to cancer. Her work includes collaborations with colleagues within the Women’s Cancer Research Group at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. As an interdisciplinary team of researchers, their focus is on overlapping research interests regarding patients’ quality of life, health services research, and patient-reported outcomes. This work is crucial to addressing all aspects of cancer care and extends beyond cancer directed therapies.
She is actively involved in the development and conduct of clinical trials. Dr. Taylor is the co-leader for the Phase I program at Magee-Womens Hospital, works with phase I-II clinical trials that are part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network, is a PI for the NCI trials network, is site PI for the NRG Oncology Phase I Group, and is local PI on multiple trials in the Gynecologic Oncology Disease Team portfolio. Additionally, she is an active member of the research community, having published more than 75 peer-reviewed publications and serving as a reviewer for multiple journals. Dr. Taylor has received many awards and honors for her teaching and research activities.
Dr. Taylor is certified in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She practices at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Mercy, UPMC Passavant, and UPMC Presbyterian. She earned her medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and her PhD from the institute for clinical research education at the University of Pittsburgh.
