Please join us in welcoming Shirley S. Ong, MD, to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, effective March 17, 2025. Dr. Ong is Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology.
Dr. Ong will be involved in clinical research, developing and running clinical trials for gliomas and brain metastases. She will also have clinical outpatient days with neuro oncology patients at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
She joined us from The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she had been assistant professor in the Division of Neuro-oncology. From 2011 – 2019, she was assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Director of the Brain Disease Organizing Committee, UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. At both institutions, Dr. Ong was the site primary investigator for multiple clinical trials, and she has published several publications and abstracts, mentored residents, and is a member of the Society for Neuro-Oncology, the American Society for Clinical Oncology, and the American Academy of Neurology.
Dr. Ong is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Ong completed a fellowship in neuro-oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and a residency in neurology and internal medicine internship at St. Louis University. She earned her MD from the University of the East-Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines.
