The Animal Facility (AF) / Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) encompass several facilities and supports research across the six schools of the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences.
Our mission statement is: Enhancing research excellence through quality animal care. This is accomplished by providing quality, humane animal care and services in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements to support existing and future animal research programs at the University.
The day-to-day care of animals is managed through the DLAR and overseen by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). University faculty can find descriptions of each DLAR facility for use in grant proposals here.
The University of Pittsburgh is fully accredited by AAALAC International (Accreditation Unit #000496). (*Note: The University’s AAALAC Accreditation Letters are not for external distribution. The item required by funding sources is knowledge that the University is accredited).
In addition, the University has a letter of assurance on file with OLAW, NIH (#D16-00118) and is registered as a research institution with the United States Department of Agriculture (23-R-0016).
